Founding Members of the Trinity 3D Movie Club

There have been many to join us on our treks into the wonderful third dimension. However, I'm going to highlight those who were there with us from the beginning.

Here we are looking like common street hooligans at the premiere of Bolt in 3D. In this picture, we see Kelsey, Shannon, Matt, myself, Alexi, Zack and Chance. I'm sure Sam and Becca are somewhere to be seen here, but I can't locate them.

Monsters vs. Aliens

I'm not going to lie. I was a little disappointed by this movie. I was excited about the great cast, thrilled by the concept and looking forward to all sorts of monster shenanigans. However, the majority of the club actually enjoyed the movie. They all enjoyed the jokes and found the whole thing really entertaining. I just found parts of the movie off and a bit predictable.

Coraline in 3D

Coraline in 3D had been one of the most anticipated films for our group. A lot of us had read the Neil Gaiman's creepy children's story on which the movie is based. Overall, the group really enjoyed the film and the fantasy world it portrayed.

The film was just as creepy and unnerving as we would have hoped. With colorful, imaginative scenery and exciting characters, this movie kept the entire group greatly entertained.

Here is a really cool video about the making of and use of puppets in this film. Great stuff!

My Bloody Valentine in 3D

We were all excited for the second 3D film of the semester. It had promise; it was advertised as the "perfect date movie". Some of us had our doubts though about My Bloody Valentine in 3Dees (mainly the girls). The date is January 15th and we all arrive to watch the midnight opening. Overall, we expected it to be more of a amusement park-style 3D "adventure" rather than a movie and for the most part, we were right. Sure, it was exciting. Sure, there was gratuitous violence and sex. But then again, we are teenagers. This is what we like, right?

Mhmm... Pizza. So the villain is frightening, the victims are attractive and the gore is plentiful. The group had a better time making fun of the movie than actually watching it, but at least we had a good time. We left the theater with most of our souls forever scared by the violence and gruesome deaths, but then again, I'm sure we've all seen worse in countless other films. (i.e., Audition, Tokyo Gore Police, Battle Royale, to just name a few). If you're a fan of easily mocked and somewhat goofy horror movies, then you'll probably enjoy this. Just don't get too attached to any of the characters, even the ridiculous ones.

Bolt in 3D (or "BOLT WAS BETTER!")

The movie that started it all. It appeared to be just another kid's flick, but there were so many elements that drew us in. Firstly, Miley Cyrus. Need I say anymore? It's almost creepy how much I'm willing to support her career. Almost. Secondly, it's a movie about superhero animals and we're easily-entertained college students. These two things were practically made for each other. Lastly, it's in 3D, one of cinema's greatest gifts and yet most overlooked genres. There is no way we could just pass this up.The date is January 21, 2009. Some of you may know this as the opening night of Twilight. Well, you'd be wrong, because clearly and more importantly, this was the opening night of Bolt in 3(freaking)D. So for all of you who sold your soul to hopes of attractive, yet inconsequential vampires and their games of homoerotic baseball, you made a poor, poor choice. Why was Bolt so obviously superior? Because of one character. This one character alone had more personality and carried more interest than an entire gallivanting cast of teenage vampires. And that character is Rhino.
This overly excited hamster added the touch of bloodlust and insanity that I crave in my childrens movies. If you are even considering seeing this movie, see it for Rhino (and maybe Miley Cyrus). The group agreed that this is the best of all scenes of the movie. P.S. Yar! There be SPOILERS ahead!

Another note of special interest is that our dear friend Kylie is actually Penny, Bolt's faithful, loving mistress, in the flesh. See for yourself.

On a whole, the Trinity University 3D Movie club greatly enjoyed our first movie. We had a good turn out and some of us even managed to run into Twilight once Bolt was over and yell "Bolt was better!" much to our own amusement.
